Social House is now my favorite restaurant for pan-Asian cuisine. And though it seats over 200, it doesn’t feel too big. The restaurant is made up of intimate dining areas embellished with sleek design motifs that support the establishment’s theme: Sushi, Sake, Socialize. They also have stacked newspapers lining the wall, which create a rich, textured backdrop and enhance the room’s acoustics. After some stiff cocktails and a few rounds of sake, Jeff savored his succulent Kobe beef, while I enjoyed spicy tuna sashimi sprinkled with bits of Serrano peppers. Stewart opted for the scallop medallions, while Don had a medley of sushi that was out of this world. The cool part about Social House is that after 10 p.m. it opens up to Tangerine, the nightclub located directly below the restaurant. Now, when I’m out late clubbing I have the perfect option for late-night dining when the urge to catch a bite kicks in. And it’s not just your basic fare; they have a full sushi and dinner menu available from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Once content, we headed downstairs to Tangerine to work off dinner and revive our treasure hunting skills. Don was determined to make the best of this trip as he was soon to be married – or at least that’s what his girlfriend was saying. Don never had any trouble attracting the ladies. And having a bottle of Dom on the table certainly wasn’t going to make it any more difficult. It was just a matter of time before our designated chick magnet would attract a bevy of beauties. In the meantime, the live band was playing, while up on stage, burlesque divas were putting on quite a show.
Can’t remember how many girls I danced with, but I knew I had a few phone numbers on some cocktail napkins stuffed in my pocket. At 4 a.m., when Tangerine closes down, I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer and my vision was reduced to a blur. I decided to head back to the room. During the elevator ride up, I was thinking about that killer mattress and that, if I could just win a few bets, I could take one home and upgrade to nirvana. Meanwhile, I was so ready to hit the sheets. |
