Renee West, President and Chief Operating Officer
of Excalibur Hotel & Casino, has a knack for making things better. Known for her industry-leading programs – including the first full-service, on-site housing community at Primm Valley Casino Resorts, the trio of gaming properties on Interstate 15 at the California/Nevada state line owned by MGM MIRAGE, and an award-winning
employee transportation program – Ms. West has brought her know-how to Excalibur, where she has set out to elevate the experience.

Prior to her current position, Ms. West was Vice President of Human Resources before being promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer of Primm Valley. Renee West took a few moments to speak with M lifestyle about passion, leadership and her vision for the future.

Q: What is your vision for Excalibur?

A: When you look at the value segment, which is where Excalibur sits, there’s not a single property that has locked up that market. We intend to own the middle market by being a fun, friendly place where our customers will feel at home. We’re adding attractions like Dick’s Last Resort to provide new reasons to stay and play here. And every employee at the property is intensely focused on providing exceptional, memorable guest service.

Q: What do you find to be the biggest challenge as President of a large company?

A: The things that are out of my control: economic downturns and changes in the business environment. You have to change strategy, adjust your operation and sometimes do those things with just a moment’s notice.
