Shaquille O'Neal moves East …
with a stopover in Las Vegas.
Story By Scott Gummer Photography By Fernando Escovar
You vs. Wilt, each at the peak of your
talents, playing to 20, winner’s outs . . . Who wins?
I win. I got a little more than Wilt. I grew up watching and emulating guards,
and I’ve got stuff people haven’t seen. I’m not saying Wilt
didn’t have it all, but you can’t compare a 1974 Benz to a 2004 Benz.
Both are great, but they are different. When Wilt was playing, he was the best
Benz.
Off the court, Shaq’s resumé is encyclopedia thick.
Rapper, movie star, and commercial pitchman are among his better-known
pursuits, but Shaq also harbors a sincere interest in law enforcement.
On one memorable trip to Vegas he got to ride shotgun with a patrolman.
When a 911 call came in the officer responded, but it was the seven-foot-one,
340 lb. deputy who tackled the understandably surprised suspect.
Consider the unique personalities of your
children for a moment and tell me what you think would be a perfect
career for each of your kids when they grow up.
Taahirah is the oldest. She is seven, and she’s going to be a nurse.
She really cares about kids. Miles is six, and he’ll be a pro baseball
player. Shareef is four, and he’s going to be a pro basketball player.
He’s always telling me, “When I get older I am going to dunk on
you!” Amirah is two. She is beautiful like her mother and is going to
be a model and a singer. My little man Shaqir is one, and he’s going
to be a personal bodyguard. He’s mean and tough, but his mama says no
boxing and no football.
