Shaquille O'Neal moves East … with a stopover in Las Vegas.
Story By Scott Gummer Photography By Fernando Escovar

Describe an ideal vacation day in Vegas.
One thing I have noticed is that there are no clocks in Las Vegas, so I never know what time it is. I am a big shopper, and I love to walk around and people watch during the day. At night, I like to catch a show—I love Cirque du Soleil. And, I love to eat. My favorite restaurant is Jasmine at Bellagio. I always order sweet and sour chicken, rice and jumbo prawns. Every time.

To mark the league’s 50th anniversary in 1996, the NBA announced the “50 Greatest Players” ever. The prestigious list read like a Who’s Who of basketball’s best, and Shaq was duly honored alongside the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, George Mikan, Magic Johnson, Bill Russell, Jerry West, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Erving, and Michael Jordan.

Imagine every player in the nba, past and present, lined up against the playground fence and you have first pick. Who do you take?
If I am playing two-on-two, the guy I want with me is Dr. J., Julius Erving. He was the first to bring style and charisma to the game. If you’re talking one-onone, I’ll take on Wilt (Chamberlain).
