From Baseball to the Big Leagues
Story by Robert Macy
In 1999, Gans signed an eight-year contract with The Mirage, where
his smash hit show in the Danny Gans Theatre is continually sold
out. Gans has amassed a repertoire of some 200 voices over the
years and is always looking for new challenges.
“The beauty of it now is that I’ve developed about
three hours of material that I can switch around depending on the
type of audience,” Gans said, describing his 90-minute show.
His toughest challenge?
“Probably Frank Sinatra, because his voice changed so many
times during his long career,” Gans said. “It’s
okay now because I can do him both when he was older and younger,” the
two most “distinctive” Sinatra voices. Any regrets
about the baseball career that might have been?
“The only regret is, if I hadn’t gotten hurt, I would
have liked to have known how far I could have gone. Could I have
hit major league pitching?”
Still, he is thankful for a “fall-back” career that
brought him stardom.
“I’m so fortunate. Most guys don’t have the
options I had,” Gans said, a touch of melancholy in his voice. “I’m
so humble that God gave me the opportunity to focus my energies
on something that’s creative like this.”
