The Mirage is home to LOVE, the latest Cirque du Soleil show combining the magic of The Beatles’ music with the troupe’s elegant artistry. The creation, a co-production with Apple Corps Ltd., marks the first time that The Beatles’ company has agreed to a major theatrical partnership. Producer George Martin and his son, Giles, oversaw the show’s extraordinary musical elements.
The show sprung forth from the friendship between The Beatles’ late guitarist George Harrison and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté. It was in this spirit that, during rehearsals in May 2006, McCartney and Laliberté discussed a way in which they could honor the late John Lennon and George Harrison. Subsequently, Cirque du Soleil designers created two plaques that were unveiled during a private ceremony on June 26 attended by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon, Olivia Harrison, and Guy Laliberté.
The Mirage is also home to The Beatles’ REVOLUTION Lounge. Created by Cirque du Soleil, this ultra lounge celebrates the group’s psychedelic world.
“Beatles fans from around the world have experienced LOVE in its first year. It’s sold out nightly and the audiences are awed by seeing The Beatles’ music presented in a theatrical context,” says Franz Kallao, Vice President of Hotel Operations at The Mirage.
Among the many activities scheduled at The Mirage this summer will be the Fest for Beatles’ Fans, the premier convention dedicated to the Fab Four. The Fest brings together thousands of fans to celebrate through special guests, memorabilia, music, and more.
“People will be listening to Sgt. Pepper 40 years from now for the same reason people listen to great symphonies that were first performed hundreds of years ago,” Spizer says. “The truly great music lives on.”
