Story by Dana Lord
MGM MIRAGE is renowned for spectacular hospitality and entertainment experiences,
but there's more to this luxury recreation innovator than meets the eye.
Beneath its glamorous exterior is a consciousness for environmental
sustainability, which is why MGM MIRAGE recently created the
Energy and Environmental Services Division.
New to the "green" scene, the division evaluates energy conservation
measures and the company's environmental performance while pursuing
sustainable development. Certain to become a common idea among conscientious
corporations, sustainability becomes more vital as the need to be environmentally
sensitive increases. As Chairman and CEO of MGM MIRAGE, J. Terrence Lanni said,
"A sustainable community seeks to maintain and improve the economic,
environmental and social characteristics of an area so its members - present and future - can lead healthy, productive,
enjoyable lives. Sustainability should be a central element in every new development in our city's future and will be a central
element in any development we undertake."
Senior Vice President of Energy and Environmental Services, Cindy Ortega, describes sustainability as, "the act of preserving
and not taking away from future generations." As a forward-thinking organization, MGM MIRAGE is dedicated to
evaluating the outcome of their actions collectively on an economic, environmental and social level
before making decisions. By following this three-part principle, otherwise known as the
Triple Bottom Line, the company sets the stage for fellow hospitality neighbors to
do the same. As Ortega said, "MGM MIRAGE is a market leader, and thus is
in a unique position to help improve the quality of resorts and casinos everywhere.
Guests will undoubtedly desire the exemplary atmosphere of a `healthy building.'" |
