Story by Ed Main
From the balcony, Rachel and Ann Marie leaned into the rail and looked over the pulsing dance floors below; they also noticed a life-size dollhouse, complete with a closet of clothes and, descending from the ceiling, the moon from the original Studio 54. Around midnight, performers dressed as life-size dolls began to frolic on stage and from the rafters above, marking the beginning of Dollhouse. The dolls and their admiring fans moved to the large dollhouse to play dress up, as patrons lived out their childhood memories. Moments later, Ann Marie and Rachel found themselves dressing a male doll in a fireman outfit, giggling like kids.
Leaving the playful atmosphere, the girls bounced over to Tabú where the Fusion event was in full effect. At 1:35 a.m., the Ultra Lounge emitted a captivating vibe as they entered the kaleidoscope of colors and sounds. Mesmerized by the rotating columns of lights and bottles behind the bar, they almost don't hear the beautiful bartender, Michelle, asking, “Didn't I see you two with Natalia last night at Tangerine?” The girls laughed and commented on the small-town feel in Las Vegas. Michelle replied, “Smaller than you can imagine.”
Sliding their martinis across the bar, Michelle said Tabú had just won its second consecutive award for “Best Lounge” at a big presentation in Miami. “I can see why,” Rachel said. “This place is gorgeous.” Entranced by the atmosphere, Ann Marie and Rachel spent hours dancing on the tables in the center of the club, the projections on the tables responding to their bodies better than most dance partners. The girls ended up closing the place down.
Friday—Day 3
By Friday night the list was yet to be found but after dinner at New York-New York's Gallagher's Steakhouse, their male travel companions suggested they check out Moorea Beach Club at Mandalay Bay. From the hardcore, street-like ambience of New York-New York to the elegant, rich tones of Mandalay Bay, Ann Marie and Rachel felt like they entered a new world. It was a beautiful star-filled night and music echoed off of the golden hue of the hotel. By day, Moorea Beach Club is an exclusive section devoted to European style sun bathing, but once the sun sets, it becomes a seasonal, outdoor ultra-lounge.
Ascending the stairs alongside waterfalls and lush landscaping, they arrived at the poolside oasis. The subdued color scheme and lights added an elegance to the light emanating from the pool. Just to the left of the main entrance was a secluded VIP area, allowing the privileged to see and be seen.
Removing their shoes, the girls walked through the white sand toward the canopied lounge areas where a few guys were gathered. When Ann Marie and Rachel asked about the large beds located on the side of the venue, one of the guys explained each bed was a VIP area, complete with its own bottle set up, and invited them to have a drink. Smiling, the host introduced himself as a local writer and told them it was his duty to provide Vegas hospitality. |
