During long, cold winters,
dreams of sun-drenched
days and balmy nights
move into the forefront
of our consciousness. And dreams
of the clothes to make us look
fabulous while languishing on
those summer days soon follow.
Showing some skin must
be done right. And the Gucci
Spring/Summer line, available
at Gucci in Via Bellagio, offers
plenty of ultra-chic, ultra-sexy
and ultra-body conscious
silhouettes to usher us from the
dreary days of winter to the golden days
of summer. The line pulls inspiration
from the intersection of the ’60s mod
girl and the ’70s flower child, echoing
the best elements of one of the most
explosive eras in history.
The new Gucci line is built upon a
clean, modern palette of graphic black
and white – with a hint of geometry to
give it structure – and is balanced with
bright colors; fuchsia and red keep
things fresh. Bold patterns and stripes,
floral detail and kaleidoscope-style
prints create an element of playfulness
within the line.
Lengths are dramatic and swing
from ultra short to ultra long. On one
end of the spectrum, we see super sexy
and super short shifts and tiny dresses
cinched tight with wide belts made
with an updated Gucci webbing and
on the other, elegant column gowns
with gleaming metal detail and
patterned, billowing chiffon gowns,
dusting the floor for a dramatic and
feminine feel.
Silhouettes are a study in
contrasts: From the skinny pants
and coats – a new interpretation
of the mod-girl suit in which
superfluous material has been
trimmed down for a seriously
chic form – and the
quintessential, ’60s A-line
dress in black and white
silk jacquard, to
the evening gowns,
featuring extra volume
at the bottom for
spectacular movement
and a narrow cut at the
top to elongate the body.
The It Bag for the season
is the Indy, the latest incarnation of
the iconic ’50s Hobo. This luxurious
bag features metallic detail, bamboo
tassels and a new, signature handle.
Taking its inspiration from the
steering wheels of vintage sports cars,
this handle conjures up notions of the
style of eras gone by. The Indy comes
in a variety of materials including
python, crocodile and new
kaleidoscope embroidery, pulling
from the same graphic color palette.
The new shoe – the low, chunky
heel in black patent leather, trimmed
with fuchsia and red or with metal
accents – offers an alternative
to the standard stiletto, but for
some serious height, there is the
open-toed, gladiator-style lace up
or the metal-detailed, black platform
sandal, both with stiletto heels
to create the illusion of legs a
mile long.
