Kristen fills her hands with a golden,
clean-scented oil, which she lightly kneads
into me. Then she sprinkles gold powder
over me, giving my skin a subtle highlight
and sparkle…just enough to reflect light
and emit a unique shine. Though the
treatment has lasted 75 minutes, the heiress
in me is greedy – I want more! But I know
that this is just the first stop of the night. It’s
time to change, blow out my hair and hit
the town like the heiress that, for at least
one night, I am.
The next day, the sparkle remained, but
the heiress vibe had faded after a long night
of drinks, lounges and clubs. So it’s back to
the spa. This time, I’m looking for something
relaxing and renewing. The “Night In” menu
is perfect. Another late-night menu, this one
is meant to send you into dreamland.
Gazing over the options, it’s a
difficult choice, again. The Sleepy
Town Massage uses soothing scents
of chamomile, marjoram, rose,
and geranium to send you off to
slumber. The Bedtime Bath is a soothing
combination of neroli, lavender and
mandarin to transport you from
“ahh” to “zzzz.”
But the Renight Facial is
calling. It begins with a burst
of steam, opening my pores
and my sinuses. Soon Sarah,
my esthetician, begins the
process of cleansing, exfoliating,
moisturizing, and hydrating. I fall
into a deep relaxation, concentrating on
the herbal scents loaded with antioxidants
and humectants as Sarah massages my neck
and shoulders, putting me in the perfect
mood to crawl into my pajamas and get a
good night’s sleep.
I’m told at the spa that skin has a 30%
better chance of healing itself at night, while
I’m resting. Only then am I the most stress
free, giving my body’s largest organ, my
skin, a chance to fully repair. I’m also away
from pollution and those nasty free radicals
you hear so much about. This is what I’m
dreaming about as Sarah applies a soothing
eye treatment that seems to restore the
hours of sleep I gave up the night before.
Once the Renight Facial is through, I’m
actually glowing, not a golden glow, but a
new, fresh glow. My skin feels soft and has a
natural blush and shine I wish I could bottle
and sell (talk about the Midas touch). I think
to myself that it’s silly to waste this healthy
sheen. I should go out! And for half a second,
I consider it. But I’m exhausted. Having
treated my body, it’s time to treat
my mind. So it’s off to bed I go.
