The sun has set and throughout Las
Vegas the screaming of blow dryers,
the spritzing of hair spray and the
snapping of compacts can be heard as the
masses prepare for a night on the town.
“How...pedestrian,” I scoff to myself. Why get
yourself ready when a professional can do
it for you? While most people are involved
in the required preening before a night out
on The Strip, I’m headed for a nighttime
treatment at WET, the spa at Treasure Island.
The moment I arrive at WET, the distracting
and overwhelming world is washed away by
the soothing trickle of water and the calming
flow of “waves,” the spa’s characterizing
design element.
Smiling spa attendants hand out sandals,
recommend services and deliver chilled
water and lemonade like pretty, little water
nymphs. I change into one of the spa’s soft
robes and am led to a warmed table where
my massage therapist, Kristen, begins my
“Heiress” package.
WET at TI has a menu of evening options
that fit in perfectly with any Vegas itinerary
and are offered from 4 p.m. until the spa
closes. There are two categories from which
to choose: “Night In” and “Night Out.”
Selecting a “Night Out” treatment was
easy; the hard part was deciding which
one. The Swarovski crystal manicure and
pedicure? Bronzing? Cellulite treatments?
Hair extensions and makeup application?
Finally my eyes landed on the “24-karat sexy”
service, as the spa menu describes it. How
many chances would I really have to
be touched by Midas?
It starts with an exfoliating jojoba
rub and continues with an application
of golden lotion. By the time Kristen has
wrapped me in golden plastic, my mind
was gone, dreaming about the night ahead.
Indulgence has always been the city’s
theme, but it has just never felt this good.
The music overhead, the dim room and
the warmth send me into a hazy dreamland
while my body absorbs the moisture the
desert air has wicked out. After about 20
minutes, Kristen tells me I can open my eyes
and leads me to the shower. I stand under
the warm, soothing water, thinking about
nothing but the task at hand: the massage.
I towel off and wrap my robe around me,
returning to my treatment.
