A Vegas Fantasy
Story by RJ Gibbs
At the table, Tom pours Jen a drink
and they converse in hushed voices,
laughing frequently and listening to
the music. Moments later, the centerpiece
of the stage begins to revolve,
revealing the three-piece band on the
other side.
Through the doorway on the left
emerges a beautiful, provocatively
dressed dancer. She prances about the
stage in perfect rhythm with the band,
tantalizing the audience with her
tremendous talent. Her choreography
is true burlesque, as it was in the
early and mid-1900s. As she exits the
stage, she tosses an important piece of
clothing at the bartender. The crowd
roars with applause.
As the DJ begins spinning again, they
soak up the charged atmosphere and
enjoy the feeling of contentment at
Ivan Kane's Forty Deuce. After a bit,
they feel the urge to dance and Tom
announces he has already reserved a VIP table at Studio 54 at MGM Grand. Looking at her watch, Jen notices
the time is 12:45 a.m. For a moment she
feels a wave of disappointment, but
immediately brightens, realizing that
Las Vegas does not shut down at 2 a.m.
After the quick cab ride to Studio 54,
the pair enters and sees the walls
undulating with a rolling beat, drawing
them to the dance floor. This isn't the
trendy, hipster nonsense people hear
about in Miami, Chicago or even L.A.
This is the infamous Studio 54,
fully evolved. |
