Story by Francis Patrick Carty
On April 2, the concert event of a lifetime took place at the Mississippi
Gulf Coast Coliseum. Billed as “One Voice. One Orchestra. One Night Only.” Domingo shared the stage with the University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, in an event presented jointly by the university and Beau Rivage Resort & Casino.
“Beau Rivage was pleased to partner with The University of Southern Mississippi to present a cultural opportunity of this magnitude in Mississippi,” said Beau Rivage President, Jeff Dahl. “As exclusive sponsor, our involvement allowed 11,000 people to have an unforgettable evening. Proceeds from the event were used to establish two Beau Rivage endowments — one to support the USM Symphony Orchestra and another to support future USM arts activities on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
Newsweek magazine may have dubbed him the “King of Opera,” but Plácido Domingo has resolutely kept the common touch: No one has done more to make opera and classical music accessible to a very broad-based public.
