Tease Jean in
Superstar Wash |
Story by Melinda Newman Q: What do you like best about
Vegas?
A: Vegas is one exciting city. It
has a unique vibe. I go out there a
couple times a year for the M.A.G.I.C.
convention to promote Sean John clothing.
I try to make my way to Vegas a few
times for pleasure as well.
Q: Do you have any favorite memories of
appearing here? One year, you presented
at the Billboard Music Awards in Las
Vegas and were swarmed by young
admirers. How do you feel about being
a role model?
A: The Billboard Music Awards was
a really hot event. I enjoy being a role
model. I hope that I’ve shown the
younger generation that with hard work
and dedication,
success is within their grasp.
Q: Your label, Bad Boy Records, turned
10 in 2004 and you’ve since started a
new alliance with Warner Music Group.
Where do you see the label going over
the next decade?
A: We will bring some revolutionary
artists and music to the scene. No one
is ready for what we are about to do at
Bad Boy.
Q: What do you like best about
discovering new artists?
A: Honestly, it’s one of my favorite
things about this business. It is the rush
I get from discovering new talent that
inspired me to create the “Making the
Band” series.
Q: You ran the New York City Marathon
in 2003 to raise $1 million for children’s
charities. The Las Vegas Marathon took
place December 4th, any thoughts on
running in that in 2006?
A: Running the marathon was one of the
hardest things I’ve ever done, but it was
also extremely rewarding. I got such a
sense of accomplishment from it. The
best part was the money that we raised
for the New York City schools. More
recently, I worked to raise money for the
victims of Hurricane Katrina. Jay-Z and I
gave $500,000 out of our own pockets for
Katrina survivors. As far as running the
marathon again, I can’t say I have plans
to do that.
Q: Las Vegas is the marriage capital
of the world. Have you ever
considered adding wedding dresses
to your line?
A: The Sean by Sean Combs line is
evolving into a full lifestyle brand.
I can’t rule out adding bridal to
the line at some point. If we do it,
I promise they will be the hottest,
sexiest dresses you’ve ever seen!
