Annual Alzheimer’s Fundraiser

Story By Amy Schmidt
Photography By Stuart Townsley, Charles Toussieng And Curtis Dahl

Bobby and Donna Baldwin co-hosted the 100-person, invitation-only, $2,500 buy-in charity tourney with fellow poker aficionado, Ben Affleck. The Baldwins and Affleck share a love of the game. Bobby Baldwin, CEO and President of Mirage Resorts, is a former World Series of Poker Champ. When Donna isn’t busy fund-raising for the foundation, she plays, too. Affleck recently won his first big tournament, the Commerce Casino’s California State Poker Championship, outlasting 90 players to secure a seat in next year’s World Poker Tour event.

Upon arrival, a red carpet and cameras—a lot of cameras—greeted the celebs and players. “Everyone from Entertainment Tonight, E! and Extra was there,” Donna says.

“It was exciting to have everyone walk down the red carpet and talk about why they were there,” Donna says. “Everyone from Rick Fox to the cast from That ’70s Show understood what Alzheimer’s was and why they were there, and it wasn’t just to play poker.”

The winner received an automatic $15,000 seat in the World Poker Tour event, along with a five-night stay at Bellagio and a beautiful Bvlgari watch.
